Jeffrey T. LaFrance is a professor in the Department of Economics.
Jeffrey grew up on a veterinary farm and ranch operation in rural Montana in the USA. He earned Bachelor of Science (1977) and Master of Science (1979) degrees in economics at Montana State University and a PhD (1983) in agricultural and resource economics at the University of California, Berkeley.
He was a Senior Fulbright Scholar at LaTrobe University in 1989, is a fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA, formerly the American Agricultural Economics Association), and a Distinguished Scholar of the Western Agricultural Economics Association (WAEA).
He has held academic positions at Montana State University, the University of Washington, the University of Arizona, the University of California-Berkeley, and Washington State University.
Jeffrey has served on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics (AJAE), Western Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics (JARE), and Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He has been an associate editor of the AJAE, editor of the JARE, a referee for many scholarly journals, and has served on numerous committees of the AAEA and WAEA.
His research interests include econometrics, economic dynamics, land degradation and sustainable agriculture, natural resource use and management, demand theory, nutrition, food consumption and human health, public land management, aggregation theory, and agricultural policy analysis.
