Biography

 

Dr. Jimmy Wong graduated from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore with a bachelor degree in Marketing in 1997. After graduation, he worked mainly in the sales and marketing function in the electronic and pharmaceutical industries. In 2003, he left his position as sales-manager in an MNC to pursue an MBA. During this time, he was also a teaching associate in NTU. After his MBA degree, he joined the PhD (Marketing) program at the University of Illinois in U.S.A. to pursue his interest in research. In 2011, he joined the Marketing Department in Monash University, Australia. Now, he teaches at the Masters level, and his research is focused on understanding the effects of social power and culture in the marketplace.

Dr. Jimmy Wong graduated from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore with a bachelor degree in Marketing in 1997. Upon his graduation, he worked two years as a Sales Engineer in an engineering firm in Singapore, and four years in the pharmaceutical division of Johnson and Johnson (J&J) Singapore Private Limited. He left his position as sales & marketing manager in 2003 to pursue an MBA in Nanyang Business School. During his MBA degree, he was a teaching associate at NTU, teaching undergraduate level Consumer Behaviour, Research Methods, Integrated Marketing Communications, as well as Organizational Behaviour. His passion for knowledge dissemination was evident in his high teaching evaluations (average 4.8/5). Upon completing his MBA with Honours, Jimmy started his career as an academic by earning the Jones Fellowship to pursue a Marketing PhD at the University of Illinois in U.S.A. During his PhD, Jimmy earned several teaching and research awards including the Jagdish N. Sheth research fellowship. His name also appeared twice in the List of Excellent Teachers as outstanding PhD Teaching Associate. Jimmy’s research appeared in several international conferences such as the Society for Consumer Psychology, as well as the Journal of Consumer Psychology which is a UK RAE top tier journal. Upon his graduation, he joined the Marketing Department in Monash University, Australia. Currently, he lectures at the Masters level, and his research is focused on understanding the effects of social power and culture in the marketplace.
