Clare Hall is Lecturer in Performing Arts in the Faculty of Education and works with pre-service teachers in primary and early childhood education courses. After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the Victorian College of the Arts, Clare performed as a violist in a range of musical groups ranging from orchestral to Greek folk music in Australia and Europe.
Whilst teaching English to young children in Turkey she discovered her passion for early childhood education. She has taught music in schools from K-Year 12 specialising in primary and early years and has a particular interest in children's singing and musical identities.
Clare's current research focus is gender and class issues in music education. Her masters research sought to understand and improve boys' singing in the first year of school and her doctoral dissertation, which is a sociological study of boys' singing and young masculinities, is currently under examination.
