Biography

Dr Ross Booth is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics and Course/Program Director for the BCom and BEc degrees at the Clayton and Sunway campuses.

Dr. Ross Booth teaches Sports Economics at Clayton campus, receiving a Dean’s Teaching Award in 2005.

His main research interest is the economics of professional team sports leagues, especially the Australian Football League. His research has been published in international books International Sports Economics Comparisons, the Edward Elgar Handbook on the Economics of Sports, Violence and Aggression in Sporting Contests: Economics, History, and Policy and forthcoming in Economics of Sports Leagues: An International Perspective, and in The Games are not the Same: The Political Economy of Football in Australia; as well as in Australian journals The Australian Economic Review, The Economic and Labour Relations Review, Labour and Industry, Economic Papers and Sport Management Review.

In recent years Ross has worked with colleagues at Monash and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) on a range of ASC-funded projects associated with governance and management and its influence on sporting outcomes. He is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Sport Finance and the International Journal of the History of Sport, and currently a Vice-President of the North American Association of Sports Economists.

Since 1988, Ross has complemented his academic interest in sports economics with football commentary for ABC TV on the Victorian Football League. Ross is a life member of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) having been a Board member from 1986 to 2010.
