Penny started at DEPM as an honours student in 2005, investigating risk factors of deep sternal wound infection and haemorrhage following cardiothoracic surgery using the ASCTS (Australian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons) dataset. She then worked part-time as a Research Assistant on the ASCTS dataset (1 year) and tutored undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Epidemiology and Biostatistics run by DEPM, while studying a Masters of Biostatistics part-time from 2006 to 2009.

Penny has been working in the Women’s Health Research Program since 2010 – mainly analysing the results of the BUPA Health Foundation “Health and Wellbeing after Breast Cancer” study, amongst other things.  She also tutors Population Health to the first year undergraduate medical students, and gives the sampling lecture.
