Biography

Matthew Groves works on the nature and scope of judicial review of administrative decisions.  His current work is mainly about the rules of natural justice and bias, reforming judicial review, constitutional influences on public law, comparative administrative law and administrative tribunals. Matthew is a member of the Commonwealth Administrative Review Council, which is established under the Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act 1975 (Cth) to advise the federal government on administrative law and policy.  He is also reviews editor of the Australian Journal of Administrative Law and State editor of the Criminal Law Journal.

Matthew is co-author of the leading Australian work on administrative law, which is M Aronson & M Groves, Judicial Review of Administrative Action (5th ed, 2013).  He also has contracts to edit a book on administrative law (to be published by Cambridge Univ Press Australia in late 2013) and another on comparative military law (to be published by Cambridge Univ Press UK in early 2014).

Matthew also researches in military justice, parliamentary privilege and succession law.
