Stephen works at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Monash University as a Research Fellow in the Laboratory for Dynamic Imaging.
His research areas of interest include: Biomedical imaging, functional lung imaging, in-vivo tomographic imaging, particle image velocimetry, synchrotron X-ray imaging, and in particular application of imaging methods to dynamic biological systems.
Over the last few years, Stephen has been developing imaging-based technology for functional imaging of dynamic biological systems. In particular, he has developed a novel 4D (3 spatial dimensions, plus time) imaging method to measure lung function. This method has the potential to revolutionize lung research and provides the capability to investigate changes in lung function in unprecedented detail. Translation of this technology into the clinic will provide new avenues for diagnosis of lung disease, and assessment of novel treatments. He is inventor on 3 patents surrounding aspects of this technology, and is pursuing opportunities fro translation of this work from the synchrotron to clinical applicatons.
Stephen also lectures an Engineering 4th year elective (Biological Imaging and Sensing), and supervises numerous final year projects. He is also active in the imaging research community, with numerous publications and conference participations.
