Since April 2012, I work in the Ritchie Centre at Monash Institute of Medical Research which is in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences at Monash University, as a Research Fellow. My research focusses on IL-37 and IL-38.
I trained for 3 years as a Medical-Technical Assistant at the Public School for Health and Social Affairs in Meiningen, Germany before studying biochemistry/molecular biology at the Friedrich-Schiller-University, Jena, Germany. After graduating in 2008, I chose to apply for a PhD Fellowship at the Pharmazentrum Frankfurt (Centre for Pharmacology and Toxicology, head of department Prof. J. Pfeilschifter). In July 2008, I was awarded a competitive three year PhD Fellowship by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (the German equivalent of the NHMRC). Under supervision of Prof. Heiko Mühl, I studied the expression regulation and function of interleukin-22 and completed my PhD in Theoretical Medicine in February 2012. Following my interests in cytokine biology and their role in inflammatory diseases especially of neonates, I joined the group of Dr. Marcel Nold and Dr. Claudia Nold in the Monash Institute of Medical Research – The Ritchie Centre in April 2012. Since then, I work on IL-37 and its signalling cascade as well as on IL-38.
