Biography

Associate Professor Jason Beringer's research is on the multidisciplinary interactions between the land, ecosystems and the atmosphere. The initiatives that he has lead focus on synthesising and integrating a broad range of research that addresses issues of national significance, particularly climate change. His career has included postdoctoral work at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, where he examined the impact of Arctic climate change on ecosystem structure and function and the effect of ecosystem changes on regional climate change and variability. Jason has also collaborated on research in land surface and climate modelling at both Colorado State University and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (USA). He has been awarded numerous ARC grants for projects that inform national and international strategies for managing climate change.

Jason has also published widely and presented his work at conferences both in Australia and internationally. In addition, Jason teaches undergraduate units and is keen to engage undergraduate students in the research process. Jason's work has taken him from Australia's Top End to the Arctic Circle.

Research & supervision interests

Jason's areas of interest include micrometeorology, boundary layer climatology, land/atmosphere interactions, land surface modelling, remote sensing and global change (earth systems science). In particular, he is interested in the detection of changes in the environment and vegetation and its influence on surface energy and trace gas exchanges and ecosystem processes. These include vegetation and ecosystem change, urban change, and land/water interfaces.

For more information on Jason's projects, visit the Climate Group web page.

Jason supervises projects in climatology, including urban climate, climate/vegetation interactions and ecosystem modelling, and is interested in potential applicants who want to work in urban climate and ecosystem ecology.
