Scott works in the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University as a Lecturer. His main research interests include Automotive and Race car Aerodynamics, Turbulence, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Methods, Engineering Design Methodologies and Teaching Methods. Scott also supervises the Monash Motorsports Formula SAE team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
POST-GRADUATE
2004 – 2009 DOCTORATE OF PHILOSOPHY, ENGINEERING (RESEARCH)
MONASH UNIVERSITY – CLAYTON CAMPUS
“On-road turbulence”
This project thoroughly documented the on-road turbulent wind environment experienced by automobiles. It quantified for the first time the effects that wind speed, terrain type and traffic conditions have on the turbulence intensity, length scale, and spatial correlations experienced on-road. These findings were compared with measurements made in the Monash University wind tunnel to justify a new set of targets for the modeling of turbulence in automotive wind tunnels.
2002 – 2004 MASTER OF SCIENCE, ENGINEERING (RESEARCH)
MONASH UNIVERSITY – CLAYTON CAMPUS
“An investigation of V8 exhaust noise in high performance automobiles”
A range of automobiles were studied to understand the most important metrics for exhaust sound quality in the high performance car market. The major achievement of the project was the identification, comprehension and synthetic reproduction of the subjective phenomena known as ‘V8 exhaust burble’.
TERTIARY
1997 – 2001 BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (MECHANICAL)
MONASH UNIVERSITY – CLAYTON CAMPUS
Completed a four year mechanical engineering degree, achieving first class honors. Final year project was the design and manufacture of the lubrication (dry sump) and cooling systems for the 2001 Monash Formula SAE car.
2005 CERTIFICATE II (PROCESS CNC MACHINING)
BOX HILL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY – BOX HILL ELGAR RD CAMPUS
Completed a full year Certificate II in CNC machining using computer controlled multi-axis lathes, mills and wire cutters. Undertook units in G-Code programming language and Unigraphics computer aided manufacturing (CAM) interface.
2002 CERTIFICATE III (PLASTICS)
CHISHOLM INSTITUTE – DANDENONG CAMPUS
Completed a full year Certificate III in plastics, focusing on the knowledge and competencies required for operators in the composites industry. Specialist areas included advanced laminating, patterns/plugs, moulds, spray up and closed mould manufacturing.
2001 CERTIFICATE IV (ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY)
CHISHOLM INSTITUTE – FRANKSTON CAMPUS
Completed a full year Certificate IV course in fabrication and machining. The units covered turning, milling, grinding, hand tools, MIG, TIG and Arc welding, soldering, oxy-cutting and sheet metal fabrication. This course also included units in Occupational Health and Safety.
