Ralph is an ecologist with interests in landscape ecology, ecological futures, ecosystem processes and invasion biology.
Mac Nally has led development of spatial ecology in Australia and its application to conservation ecology, and is a world's leader in this new transdisciplinary area. He weaves strands of research from terrestrial and freshwater ecology to treat landscapes as integrated systems. Mac Nally is interested in ecological futures under alternative human actions and global change, spending a sabbatical at The University of Cambridge in 2010 to extend his expertise in this area. He is an inaugural ARC Outstanding Discovery Researcher Awardee (2012), one of only two at Monash University.
