Biography

Dr Kirsten Ellis works in the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University as a Lecturer. She researches how people interact with different types of technology.

Kirsten has a strong technical background and has experience in designing, developing and evaluating systems for teaching sign language using computers particularly on the Nintendo DS lite. Her research interests include human computer interaction and how technology can create a more inclusive society. Her current specialisation is in teaching sign language to hearing people so that they can interact with deaf people in a common language that is fully accessible to all participants. Dr. Ellis has researched two year old children using computers in terms of behaviour, interaction style, mouse usage and concentration span. Dr Ellis has conducted research in how the use of data gloves changes the behaviour of children learning sign language via the computer.
