Biography

Before joining the Translation and Interpreting Studies Program in 2011, Jim worked in the Arts Academic Language and Learning Unit. Jim's previous lecturing experience includes sociolinguistics, bilingualism, child language acquisition and English for academic purposes. Jim has worked as a freelance interpreter and translator in Europe and Australia and is NAATI accredited for both interpreting and translation in Croatian and German. Currently, Jim lectures in the interpreting stream of the Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies.

His research interests lie in the following areas:

Translation and Interpreting:

  • Pedagogy of interpreting
  • Lay and non-professional interpreting
  • Incidence of interpreting and translation amongst multilinguals and multilingual societies

  • Contact linguistics
