Dr Jane Bone is involved in research in the area of early childhood education in Australia (and formerly in New Zealand). Her expertise is in holistic and alternative approaches to pedagogy and learning, including research involving Steiner, Montessori and Reggio Emilia based preschools. Her main research area explores spirituality in early childhood settings and is internationally recognised. This research involves sensitive areas of research about values and beliefs.
Jane has also published work about ethical approaches to research with young children. Jane's research contributes to wider understandings about the significance of early childhood education in terms of wellbeing and social justice. She is currently exploring the connections of children with animals and the environment.
Jane Bone uses a qualitative case study approach to research and a post-structural theoretical perspective. Her recent influences are Deleuze and Guattari and the posthuman theoretical work of Donna Haraway.
Recent research projects involve preschools in Australia, New Zealand and Italy. She has worked with The City of Casey in a DEEWR funded project about innovative approaches to curriculum. She has recently worked with PAL (peer assisted learning) and is currently conducting research with an innovate primary school about learning and creative environments. Another project concerns students on the EU-Global mobility leadership project that involves a consortium of universities in Europe and Australia. Jane is a member of the CRN (Collaborative Research Network), a project with Queensland University of Technology, Charles Sturt University and Monash.
