Biography

Dr Dengsheng Zhang received a BSc and a BA in 1985 and 1987 respectively. He obtained his PhD in Computing in 2002 from Monash University, Australia. He is currently a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Information and Technology at Monash University.

Dr Zhang has over 20 years of research experience in the field of artificial intelligence, he has published over 80 refereed international journal and conference papers in his career. The number of citations on his publications is more than 3,600 based on Google Scholar. His h-index is 26 (26 of his top cited papers have been cited at least 26 times each) and his g-index is 60 ((60 of his most cited papers have at least 60 citations each on average). His main research interests include pattern recognition, machine learning, multimedia information processing and retrieval.

Dr Zhang has jointly received $520,000 funding from an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Grant to support his research on image and music classification. He has supervised 5 PhDs and two masters to completion. He has won the 2009 Faculty of Information Technology Early Career Researcher Award for his outstanding research achievement.

Dr Zhang is on the reviewer board of a number of top journals including IEEE TPAMI, TOM, TIP, CSVT, ACM TOMCCAP and Pattern Recognition. He has also served in the program committees and organization committees of 15 international conferences. Currently, he is the associate editor of WSEAS (The World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society) Transactions on Signal Processing.

Dr Zhang also has over 20 years teaching experience and has lectured extensively in mathematics, programming, web design, science English, database, computer networks, multimedia, eCommerce, computer systems, business systems, operations and management science.
