Dr George Verikios is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Policy Studies, Monash University; he joined the Centre as Research Fellow in 2008. Prior to this he was Principal Economist at Access Economics where his main role was in general equilibrium model development, including theoretical and database development of dynamic models of the Australian and global economies. Earlier appointments include: Lecturer in Economics at the University of Western Australia; Senior Research Economist at the Productivity Commission; and Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Program Evaluation at Monash University.
Dr Verikios’s main research interest is in the application of general equilibrium modelling techniques to quantitative policy analysis. He received his Ph.D from the University of Western Australia in 2007. His doctoral thesis involved the construction of a highly detailed representation of global wool markets, distinguishing commodities from raw wool through to finished garments, completely integrated with the rest of the world economy. The model was used to analyse trade barriers and productivity issues for wool and wool-related producers.
