Alexa Delbosc is utilising her passion in social sciences to research the social impacts of public transport and the impacts of transport disadvantage on social exclusion and well-being.
Alexa is a Research Fellow in the Institute of Transport Studies, Faculty of Civil Engineering at Monash University. After graduating from Harvard with a Masters in social psychology, Alexa wanted to apply her social science research skills to solve real-world problems.
“The intersection between transport engineering and social science is an emerging but very important frontier in transport research. After all, transport is used by people and it impacts their lives every day,” says Alexa.
Alexa explains her research “involves an in-depth study of how transport influences people’s lives including their well-being and social exclusion.”
The benefits of Alexa’s research are immeasurable, as she is able to directly inform transport policy and planning; cultivating strong industry and government contacts.
Reflecting on her role, Alexa enjoys that “every research project and analysis is different to the last, and that they have an impact in the ‘real world’ outside of uni.”
