Biography

Prof Greg Bamber is a Distinguished Academic and Discipline Group Leader: Human Resources & Employment Relations, Department of Management, Faculty of Business & Economics, Monash University, Melbourne. He was formerly Director of Research.

He has more than a hundred academic publications including many articles in such refereed journals as: Asia-Pacific J. of Human Resources; British J. of Industrial Relations; Comparative Labor Law & Policy J.; Industrial & Labor Relations Review; Industrial Relations J.; International J. of Human Resource Management; International Labour Review; Higher Education Review; Human Relations; Human Resource Management J.; J. of Industrial Relations; J. of Management Studies; Australian J. of Labour Economics; New Technology, Work & Employment; Personnel Review; Prometheus; Public Administration; and Thunderbird International Business Review. He has served on the editorial board of more than 20 refereed journals. 

He is a sometime assessor for the Australian Research Council (ARC) and also for the equivalent research councils in Britain, the USA and Canada. He has been a co-chief investigator on many competitive grant-funded projects. His international research collaborations include being co-leader of projects on: aviation, car manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications and the public sector.

He was educated at Manchester U., London School of Economics, and Heriot-Watt U., Edinburgh. He has supervised more than a dozen PhD theses as well as numerous masters and honours dissertations. He has been an Examiner, Guest Speaker, Selection Panel Member or Reviewer for many other universities and other enterprises in Australia, the UK and other countries. He was an academic earlier in Australia at the U. of Queensland, Queensland U. of Technology (Director, Australian Research Council Key Centre in Strategic Management), and Griffith U. (Dean & Director, Graduate School of Management). In England, was an academic at the Durham U. and has worked on research projects based at the Oxford U., Warwick U., and at Imperial College.

He researches with and advises international organizations, private- and public-sector enterprises and other organizations. Government departments and international agencies (e.g. the International Labour Organization) have commissioned him to conduct projects. He has also been an advisor for governments in Australia, the UK and other countries. He has been appointed to serve as a director on several boards in the fields of education, sport and health including the Board of Southern Health, which includes responsibility for Monash Medical Centre. Numerous international conferences have selected his papers to be published as one of the best papers or to be included in proceedings, conference books or special issues of journals.

He has been an arbitrator for the British Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS). He has served also as President: Australian & New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM), and of International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management. He is currently Co-Chair: International Section, US Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA); Vice President, Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia & New Zealand (AIRAANZ); and President, Industrial Relations Society of Victoria.

He is an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences, UK; a Distinguished Member and Life Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand Academy of Management; and a Fellow of several other associations including: Academy of Social Sciences of Australia, Australian Human Resources Institute, Australian Institute of Management, British Academy of Management (BAM), Chartered Institute of Management, UK and of Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, UK.
