Biography

Elaine is an associate professor with the Department of Accounting and Finance.

Elaine Hutson completed her PhD at the University of Technology, Sydney, in 1999.  Before joining Monash University in 2012, she held positions at the University of Technology, Sydney (1990-1999), Dublin City University (1999-2001), and University College Dublin (2002-2011).

She is a subject area editor (International Finance) for the International Review of Financial Analysis, an associate editor for Research in International Business and Finance, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Teaching in International Business.

Elaine has published widely in a variety of finance and international business journals including the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance and International Business Review.

Elaine's research interests are mainly in the sub-discipline of corporate finance, and include firm-level foreign exchange exposure, mergers and acquisitions, and small business financing. Her capital markets research interests include hedge funds’ performance and regulation, the characteristics of stock market returns, and the history of the managed funds industry.

PhD supervisions to completion (University College Dublin):

Teresa Hogan (2005); thesis entitled Financing in the indigenous Irish software sector.  Teresa works at Dublin City University.

Elaine Laing (2012); thesis entitled Foreign exchange exposure, multinationality, and corporate governance: A study of US firms.  Elaine has recently taken up a position at Curtin University, Australia.

Min Ye (2012); thesis entitled Foreign exchange exposure and exchange rate regimes; the case of emerging markets.  Min has recently taken up a position at Hunan University, China.
