Biography

Dr Stuart Ellem is an early career researcher whose work focuses on the role of estrogen in the prostate and prostate disease. In particular, his work has been important in dissecting the role of both estrogen receptors in the prostate, as well defining the link between aberrant estrogen exposure, inflammation, and the development of prostate cancer.

Dr Ellem’s work includes examination of steroid and steroid receptor function/expression, inflammation, tumour microenvironment, gene expression and localisation studies, and more. Underpinning all of this is the analysis of human tissue pathology, in-vitro cell culture and modelling, and the use of various animal models.

To pursue his research work, Dr Ellem has received a number of fellowships and grants from National and International funding bodies, including the NH&MRC (Fellowship and Project grants), United States Department of Defence, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
