Matthew is a full-time Research Fellow based at the Gippsland Medical School in Churchill, but working across the School of Rural Health. He is a nationally recognised research leader in the field of rural health, and particularly in rural health workforce and health services policy, as well as measures of rural access (for which he completed his PhD in 2008).
He is a Chief Investigator on the Centre of Research Excellence in Rural and Remote Primary Health Care (access and equity), funded by the Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute. He also leads Rural workforce supply, distribution and mobility stream of activity within the MABEL study (Medicine in Australia: Balancing Employment and Life) Centre of Research Excellence, funded by NHMRC.
