Biography

Pablo works in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences at Monash University as a Senior Research Fellow.

Pablo is an international recognized endocrinologist with a strong clinical and basic research background in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He was awarded a Master degree and a PhD in Argentina and he continues his postdoctoral training at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU, USA). He was promoted to the position of Assistant Professor at OHSU in 2007. In 2008 he relocated to Monash University.

Pablo major goal is to determine how obesity disturbs the physiological processes of energy balance and glucose homeostasis, and how these disturbances can be pharmacologically improved.

To achieve the goals of his research he has developed different strategies: A) Creation/characterisation of two new models of dietary obesity: a mouse model of leptin resistance, and an obese monkey model. B) Participation in 2 clinical trials involving obese humans: Clinical study of obese children (Germany), and the obese adult Pima Indian clinical studies (USA); C) Developing two new methodologies to study the neural circuitry responses to signals of energy status. These methods were patented and he received the Technology Innovation awards 2008 (OHSU) for one of them. D) Drug development: with Novo Nordisk (Denmark) and licensed technologies for Orexigen Therapeutics Inc (USA).

His current projects include evaluating whether neuronal circuit alteration induces an increase of visceral fat accumulation; type 2 Diabetes, blood pressure, and heart rate, all common traits of metabolic syndrome.
