Joseph is a Consultant Physician with the Clinical Liaison Service (2002) and the Work Related Investigation Service (2005) Specialist Investigations Unit at Victorian Institute Forensic Medicine & State Coroners Office investigating the system failures associated with health care and work related deaths respectively. He is also an Associate Director with NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Patient Safety and an Adjunct Professor, Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care at La Trobe University, Faculty of Health Sciences.
Joe is a practising consultant physician in geriatric medicine with research interests in quality of clinical care, performance measurement and patient safety. Joseph has a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellowship in Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.
Prior to these appointments Joseph Ibrahim established the Health Services Research Unit at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University after completing the Doctorate of Philosophy investigating the relationship between quality of care and performance indicators. He also completed two terms as regional editor for the International Journal for Quality in Health Care (2000-04) and was the Foundation Professor Aged Care at Peninsula Health (2004-08).
