Biography

Wen-Xin works in the School of Physics at Monash University as a Research Fellow

Wen-Xin’s research areas of interest are:

Dr. Wen-Xin Tang obtained his PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from Fudan University in China. He subsequently joined the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Germany, where his research has involved low-dimensional magnetism. Such work is vital for future ultrafast magnetic applications.

By realizing the importance of III-V semiconductors such as GaAs and their future role in spintronics, he joined Monash University in 2007 to develop the technique of Low Energy Electron Microscopy (LEEM):(www.physics.monash.edu.au/research/leem.html) , in Australia. In particular, he established the first III-V LEEM system in the world leading to significant discoveries which have been published in high impact journals such as Physical Review Letters and Science.

He envisages that recent breakthroughs in the understanding of III-V semiconductor surface dynamics will combine with his knowledge of low-dimensional spin dynamics, to foster new investigations. Consistent with this view, he has proposed a novel spin Talbot effect which may form the basis for a new approach to quantum computing.
