Biography

Before migrating to Australia Christiane Weller read German Literature, Art History and Psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany, completing her studies with a Master Degree (Magister Artium). In 1999 she received her Ph.D. from Monash University and joined the Monash German Department.
Her research interests include German travel writing and expeditions reports, colonial writing, contemporary German fiction and psychoanalytic theory. She has published on Georg Forster, Christoph Ransmayr, W.G. Sebald, Thomas Bernhard, Peter Handke, Wolfgang Hilbig and others, as well as on topics like trauma, melancholia and psychosis. She is a co-editor of Limbus: Australisches Jahrbuch für germanistische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft / Australian Yearbook of German Literary and Cultural Studies, and a co-editor of the online journal écritique – Letters of the Freudian School of Melbourne, School of Lacanian Psychoanalysis.
Christiane Weller is a member of several academic societies including the German Studies Association of Australia (GSAA), the German Studies Association of North America (GSA), and the Georg-Forster Society. She is also a member of the Freudian School of Melbourne. School of Lacanian Psychoanalysis and a member of the Psychoanalytic Studies Association of Australia.
