Biography

Dirk Baltzly is Associate Professor in Philosophy in the Arts Faculty. He specialises in the history of ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. He is currently working on a project about the last pagan philosophers in the late Roman Empire. He has recently completed 3 books of translation and notes on Proclus' (410-485 CE) Commentary on Plato's Timaeus.

Because ancient philosophy is an inter-disciplinary investigation A/Prof. Baltzly holds a PhD in Philosophy and a second PhD in Classics. He is a member of the Australian Academy of Humanities and has recently returned from a year's fellowship at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study.
