Constantine Verevis works in the Faculty of Arts at Monash University as a Senior Lecturer in Film and Television Studies.
My work moves between a number of disciplinary locations, spanning both film theory and cultural studies, and takes a special interest in genre and adaptation theory. I began my academic training in English, Communications and Cultural Studies at Curtin and Murdoch universities in Perth, before undertaking a Ph.D. in film at La Trobe University, Melbourne. My Deleuze-inflected dissertation sought to understand the relationship between theorises of repetition and contemporary film studies, and the legacy of this work can been seen in my contributions to The Deleuze Dictionary (2005/2011) and ongoing interest in cinematic remaking.
Since 1996 I have taught film and television studies at Monash University, initially in the Visual Culture program and (since 2007) in a dedicated Film and Television Studies program. I have published widely in the areas of film and cultural studies, and my books include Film Remakes (Edinburgh UP, 2006), and the co-edited books, Second Takes:Critical Approaches to the Film Sequel (State U of New York P, 2010), After Taste: Cultural Value and the Moving Image (Routledge, 2012), Film Trilogies: New Critical Approaches (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2012), and Remake-Remodel: Film Remakes, Adaptations and Fan Productions (Palgrave-Macmillan, in press). My recent (2007–09) Australian Research Council Discovery grant (with co-investigators Noel King and Deane Williams) looks at the development of Australian Film Theory and Criticism in the decade long period 1975–85. The first of three volumes –Australian Film Theory and Criticism, Vol 1: Critical Positions – is forthcoming (Intellect, in press). I was Head of Film and Television Studies (2008–09) and am presently co-director of the Research Unit in Film Culture and Theory.
