Dr Bernadette Ward commenced as a Senior Research Fellow with the Centre of Research Excellence in Rural and Remote Primary Health Care (CRERRPHC) in December 2011. Prior to this Bernadette was a lecturer in Public Health at La Trobe University. Bernadette was awarded an NHMRC scholarship to undertake her PhD which was titled “The role of parents in influencing adolescent alcohol use.” She has been a fellow of the Victorian Public Health Training Scheme where she conducted research into a range of public health issues including infectious disease food outbreaks and the public health costs of STIs. Her recent funded consultancies were from the Australian Drug Foundation and the Department of Early Childhood Development and Education. Bernadette’s interest in rural and remote health stems from many years of primary health practice in remote Australia.
