Biography

Asadul works in the Faculty of Business & Economics at Monash University as a Senior Lecturer.

I am a Development Economist. I also work on issues related to immigration in labour economics. My recent research focuses on microfinance, schooling and health, petty corruption, and risk-sharing mechanisms of households. I am particularly interested in issues that can generate public policy interest.

I received discovery early career research award from Australian Research council for 2012-14. I have also received Monash Research Accelerator (MRA) award for 2013-14. The MRA program aims to recognise, reward and accelerate the career development of Monash's highest performing early to mid-career researchers. I also received 2011 Dean's award for excellence in research at Monash. I was awarded Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal 2009 for the best thesis of the year in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. I have published in journals such as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Economic Inquiry, Journal of Development Studies, B.E. Journal of Economic Analysis and Policy, Economic Record and Journal of Population Economics.

I joined at Monash University in 2009. I completed my PhD at Monash University in 2009. I did my BSS and MSS in Economics from University of Dhaka, and MA in Economics from University of Saskatchewan, Canada. I also spent a year in PhD program at the University of Western Ontario. Prior to joining at Monash, I worked at Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) as a research associate and the research fellow. I conducted several large surveys while at BIDS, and worked as a consultant for ADB, World Bank and European Union funded research projects. More recently, I worked (invited) for the Asian Development Bank as an independent econometric evaluation expert and advisor for the country research teams for China, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia on econometric issues related to evaluation of projects/programs.
