Judy Lowthian is a senior research fellow, having completed her doctorate entitled "Increasing demand for emergency patient services: underlying drivers, implications and potential solutions" supported by an NHMRC Postgraduate scholarship in 2012. Her research includes longitudinal analyses and linkage of population-based datasets, epidemiological modelling of the effects of numerous factors on health service utilisation with predictive modelling and forecasting of future demand; qualitative analyses of patient- and doctor-based interviews; and management of large research studies. Her research is underpinned by a clinical background in speech pathology rehabilitation and health service management in Australia and the UK. Her specific research interests are health services research to improve patient care.
Judy’s article “The challenges of population ageing: accelerating demand for emergency ambulance services by older patients, 1995-2015”, was awarded the 2012 Sir Richard Stawell Memorial Prize. This prize is awarded annually for an article ‘on a medical subject of clinical significance’ published in the Medical Journal of Australia.
