Biography


Christopher Arup is a professor in the Department of Business Law and Taxation.

Chris’s research, supervision and teaching interests cover intellectual property, international trade law, the regulation of financial and professional services, and labour law. His work is inter-disciplinary and he has long-term experience in regulatory studies and socio-legal studies.

He is lead investigator on a current ARC discovery project entitled Carbon Offsets: Regulation for Success (2012-2014) and he recently completed an ARC discovery project investigating Worker Know-how and the Relationships that Support It (2009 – 2011).

His works include two monographs with Cambridge University Press, Innovation, Law and Policy, and The World Trade Organization Knowledge Agreements. He is co-editor of several books, including Intellectual Property Policy Reform: Fostering Innovation and Development, Labour Law and Labour Market Regulation, and Competition Policy with Legal Form. Chris is co-editor of the CUP international monograph series, Studies in Law and Society.

Chris was Head of Department 2009-2011. Prior to joining Monash, Chris worked at La Trobe University and Victoria University. He was the head of the law schools at both institutions. He has had visiting appointments at the universities of Durham, Chicago, Warwick and Sussex. Chris has undertaken consultancy and project work for organisations such as the OECD, the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, the Victorian WorkCover Authority, the New South Wales Professional Standards Council, the Victorian Auditor-General and the Brotherhood of St. Laurence.
