My research interests lie within the broad field of contemporary political philosophy, with a particular focus on liberal egalitarianism. Many of my publications address how well liberalism, particularly its egalitarian versions, explains and proposes to redress persistent inequalities in modern societies. In this area I have published articles on gender, nationalism and multiculturalism, and disability. Earlier publications focused on core notions of liberal theory itself, including personal autonomy, equality, and liberal neutrality. My current research explores the relation between claims of inequality and injustice made by feminists and similar claims made by disability advocates.
I have also published a number of articles in bioethics from a political philosophy perspective; on genetic enhancement, abortion, and issues of exploitation and fairness in medical research.
