Biography

Rosemary Clerehan is an Associate Professor and Director of International Postgraduate Academic Support in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

An educational linguist, she was formerly Head of Monash University Language and Learning (1987-2005). Her current role involves academic support for the Faculty’s international PhD and Masters students on all Monash campuses and sites.  She also teaches linguistic and cultural aspects of clinical interaction to International Medical Graduates undertaking the Clinical Bridging Course for IMGs in the School of Primary Health Care.

She has published in higher education, health sciences, educational media and online learning journals in the areas of: HDR students; health literacy and doctor-patient communication (especially written); learning on the web; disciplinary understandings and genre studies; systemic functional linguistics; plagiarism; and cross-cultural issues in teaching and learning (especially for students from Middle Eastern backgrounds).

She has been a team member of the ALTC Priority Project ‘Web 2.0 authoring tools in higher education learning and teaching: New directions for assessment and academic integrity’ which led to a number of publications; and is currently a member of the Monash-Warwick Research Collaboration. She is a Co-editor of the Journal of Academic Language and Learning.
