Biography

Nirma is an education focused Senior Lecturer and Practical Coordinator in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

 

As an education focused academic Nirma has extensive experience in teaching first and second year students reading for the MBBS and Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics degrees. She coordinates practical development in the department and in this capacity she oversees and coordinates all practical development in the department. This includes collaboration with fellow academics and laboratory staff to design and develop new practicals for existing and new units and redevelop existing practicals based on student feedback. Nirma is currently involved in the development of resource material for teaching basic laboratory skills to undergraduates to improve their learning through practical classes. She practices her teaching philosophy by enacting the teaching and research nexus in the classroom and continues to connect her disciplinary research on human papillomavirus and other sexually transmitted infections with the scholarship of learning and teaching to improve student learning and engagement.
