Peter Cook : "That was the first in-class drug that worked in that manner on influenza viruses and it was subsequently commercialised by Glaxo-Smith Kline and is marketed as Relenza.

"The impact on the wider community, particularly with our Neuraminidase project was huge. Bear in mind that what emerged from it was a drug that could tame influenza for the first time ever in the history of mankind."

Peter Cook : "Influenza has killed more people than any other disease on the planet and it has in fact killed more people than all wars combined. So, the impact of the discovery of this was and is quite significant."
