NEW Code of Practice

• Code of Practice for the Exposure of Humans to Ionising Radiation for research Purposes (ARPANZA 2005).
• Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) has developed the Code for implementation by state based regulatory agencies.
• The Victorian State based agency responsible for radiation safety is the Victorian Department of Human Services.
• The Victorian Department of Human Services has advised they are implement the Code in 2006.

Key changes resulting from NEW Code of Practice

• The review and approval of all research involving exposure of humans to ionizing radiation is now the responsibility of Human Research Ethics Committees.
• The Responsibilities of the Researchers. If the project involves radiation doses which exceed the constraints listed in Table 1 and where there is no direct benefit to the participant the project will be sent to DHS for review.
• Researchers need to complete and submit the Radiation Module with Form 1.
