Definition and Classification of Research and Research Income

Monash reports its research income annually to the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) through the Higher Education Research Data Collection.

External funds are counted as research income if:

• They are for an activity that meets the DEEWR definitions of "research" and "research income", and
  
  
• The amounts are recorded in the Monash accounts in the appropriate fund code

The classification is in accordance with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations(DEEWR) specifications for the annual research data collection covering research income and research publications. The information reported is used in DEEWR and Monash formulas for allocation of Institutional Grants Scheme (IGS) and Research Training Scheme (RTS) funding. See also:
