The aim of the investigations was to further develop a sole that will provide energy return, reduce impact loads and fatigue. The sole should eventually be built to an ideal stiffness depending on a person’s body weight and height. The model is to be designed to suit existing lasts and so optimal stiffness can be determined via objective and subjective testing without building numerous inserts. We also aimed to create a more comfortable designed insert than previously designed.
