PROSTHETIC DESIGN SYSTEM Software
PDS is an electronic interactive version of the TechGUIDE for Quality Lower Limb Modular Prosthetic Components, with extra design, recording and patient features. The software is in essentially two sections. The main catalogue section and the design section.
The main catalogue section is an electronic database of the TechGUIDE, with the added feature of the user being able to add permanent notes for a component. A search engine makes finding a component easy. A mirror catalogue of components not found in the TechGUIDE is also available. Here the prosthetist can add their own components.
A prostheses can be designed using components from either the provided catalogue or prosthetist catalogue. The program keeps a track of what components are selected, total weight of components, total height of all the components and maximum load capacity of the prosthesis. It allows the prosthetist to mix and match components in the design with the software determining the structural compatibility of adjacent parts.
The finished design can be directly linked to a patient, and viewed in numerous summaries which are easily printed. This allows for accurate record keeping of what components are used, what patients have certain components and when they were fitted. The design can also be a basis for future designs.
With all the information from the TechGUIDE including, pictures, the software is easily updated to incorporate the most recent components and information, while keeping all previous notes, designs and patient information.
This information is the first step to the design approach which allows full optimising of a design ie to design as close as posssible to requirements. With the inclusion of other parameters the system can obtain even further optimisation.
