Bicycles can access the campuses via main travel routes, excepting that bicycles are not allowed on most freeways in Melbourne. Some roadways may have designated bike lanes in certain sections. Remember that bike helmets are required by law when cycling in Victoria.
Although Melbourne itself has extensive bike and pedestrian paths, there are no such paths which enter the Berwick, Caulfield or Clayton campuses. A bike path runs alongside the Stony Point railway line from a point near the Frankston railway station and passes alongside the Peninsula campus. There are several bike paths in Parkville and Carlton which provide off-road access to the Parkville campus for some of the way.
The paths and grounds of the University are restricted to pedestrian and essential vehicle use only. Bicycle riding (this applies also to skateboarding and rollerblading) are not permitted. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bikes and park them in available bicycle racks, except at South Africa, where you must leave your bicycle at the designated bike parking area.
These can be found on some campuses - ask at the campus Information Desk or contact your student association. At Sunway there is a bicycle shed at the front entrance of the campus.
Caulfield offers students three forms of bike security:
For bike cages and lockers please contact the MONSU Caulfield Service Desk, L2 S Building, telephone +61 3 9903 2525, email servicedesk@monsucaulfield.org.au
