| Credit |
Credit which is given in one course on the basis of prior formal studies in another course at the same or another higher education or post-secondary institution. |
| Credit points |
Each unit has a credit point value. For Monash units this is typically 6 points or a multiple of 6 eg 12, 18. The credit point value for each unit is included in the Handbook entry. |
| Cross-institutional |
External relationships which lead to formal agreements with other tertiary institutions, business, industry, government agencies or schools, both locally, nationally and internationally, based on the joint development and delivery or, and graduation from education and training programs. |

| Exemption |
Where a student is not required to take a certain unit on the basis of work already completed but is required to undertake an alternative unit of equivalent credit points. |

| GPA |
Grade Point Average is found on an academic transcript. The score is the average result of all grades achieved by a student during a course of study at tertiary level. Students receive an overall score with a maximum achievable of 4.00 (Score is awarded on the basis that a HD grades are weigted at 4, D grades are weighted at 3, etc). |

| Mode of attendance |

| WAM |
WAM is found on an academic transcript. The score is the average result of all marks achieved by a student during a course of study at tertiary level. The WAM is calculated by weighting each mark by the unit credit points, summing up each of the weighted marks and dividing the total by the total number of credit points undertaken. A year level weight is included in the WAM calculation so that first year marks are weighted at half that of later years. |
