1970s

Graham Lay (BA 1970, DipEd 1971, BEd 1975) has retired after 42 years with the Victorian Department of Education. This included 38 years as a teacher in the Wimmera region.

Senior cardiologist Victor Wayne (MBBS 1976) was recently elected to the International Board of Governors of Tel Aviv University in Israel.

Christopher Prowse (BA 1978) has been appointed the eighth Catholic Bishop of the Sale Diocese in Victoria.

Oscar MozeOscar Moze (BSc(Hons) 1977, PhD 1982) is now scientific attaché at the Italian Embassy in Canberra.

1980s

David BaileyManagement consultant David Bailey (BSc(Hons) 1980) recently joined the board of Australian Business Volunteers, a non-government and not-for-profit international development agency.

John Long (BSc(Hons) 1981, PhD 1984) has recently taken up a new position as Vice-President of Research and Collections at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, USA. He was previously Head of Sciences at Museum Victoria.

The former media and communications editor of The Age, Matthew Ricketson (BA(Hons) 1981), has been appointed professor of journalism at the University of Canberra.

Elizabeth Slottje's (ADipWelfStud 1982) honours thesis "Investigating the community choir" helped inspire the successful establishment of a community choir in Sydney this year.

Shamsul Amri Baharuddin (PhD 1983), a leading social anthropologist in South East Asia, is the recipient of a 2008 Fukuoka Culture Prize (Academic Prize) for his achievements across academic research, social criticism and education.

 

Jennifer MartinPeter Hodgson

Jennifer Martin (BPharm 1982, MPharm 1986) and Peter Hodgson (BE(Mat)(Hons) 1980) have been named as two of 15 inaugural Australian Research Council Laureate Fellows.

Since graduating from Monash, Van Vidotto's (BE(Elec) 1983) career has spanned the automobile, building, manufacturing and retail industries. He is currently the contract and supplier manager of group procurement at Wesfarmers.

Stephen FoleyIT entrepreneur Stephen Foley (GradDipComp 1987) has developed iCyte, a new software tool that allows users to save, tag and annotate online research.
