Head of Science at Museum Victoria John Long (BSc(Hons) 1981) PhD 1984) received the 2008 Australasian Science Prize for his discovery of a fossilised Devonian fish embryo.

In 2007, Philip Gregory (BA(Hons) 1982) received a Monash Faculty of Arts Dean's Commendation Award for his work in the School of Political and Social Inquiry.

Nahendran Navaratnam (BSc 1985, LLB 1987) is head of litigation at Kadir Andri and Partners in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has also been admitted to the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London.

Agricultural scientist Ross Chandler (MEnvSc 1988) was a 2008 finalist on the Australian television program New Inventors for creating a product which, when added to sewage, can reduce the damage caused to pipe infrastructure.

Rita Felski (MA 1982, PhD 1988) has been appointed as the editor of literary theory journal New Literary History.

After teaching at the University of South Australia, Ohio State University and Pilchuck Glass School, Clare Belfrage (BA(CeramicDes) 1989) is now creative director of Canberra Glassworks.

Ross Barnett (BA 1989) was recently appointed as executive officer of the Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria.
