Hazel Edwards (BA 1971, BEd 1974, MEd 1984) has written Gang-O Kids (Omotivo Pty Ltd, 2008) a series about the adventures of five children who meet each weekend and solve mysteries while orienteering.

University of Virginia Professor Rita Felski (MA 1982, PhD 1988) has written Uses of Literature (Blackwell Publishing, 2008) which aims to bridge the gap between literary theory and common-sense beliefs on why people read literature.

David Francis (BA 1981, LLB 1982) has written a thriller and love story set in Moscow during the 1980s. Stray Dog Winter (Allen & Unwin, 2008) is about a young man's search for family truths.

Chris Goddard (MSocWk 1982, PhD 1992) Director of Child Abuse Research Australia at Monash University, has co-authored a new publication Human Rights Overboard (Scribe Publications, 2008) on the recent experiences of asylum seekers in Australia.

Dissection (Scribe Publications, 2008) by Jacinta Halloran (MBBS 1982, MPH 1991) follows the story of a dedicated female GP who is sued for medical negligence. The story was shortlisted in the 2007 Victorian Premier's Prize for an unpublished manuscript.

Pauline Kirk (MA 1969) has written and illustrated a new book of poetry called Envying the Wild (Fighting Cock Press, 2008). The book covers a wide ranges of topics, from owls to family history and the complexities of modern life.

Head of Sciences at Museum Victoria, John Long (BSc(Hons) 1981, PhD 1984) has released The Big Picture Book of Environments (Allen & Unwin, 2008). His book explores the effects of the changing climate on environments around the world.

The Good Giving Guide (Penguin Group, 2008) co-authored by Lyn Amy (BA 1984) includes practical tips on individual giving, setting up trusts, business giving and corporate volunteering.

Children's author Jen Storer (BA(Hons) 2000) has written her third book. Tan Callahan's Secret Spy Files: The Mystery of Purple Haunt (Penguin, 2008) which centres on the Callahan family's move to the country and Tan's adventures with sleepovers, spooks and spying.

Glenice Whitting (BA(SocSc) 1997) has written a new novel Pickle to Pie (Ilura Press, 2007) which tells the story of 80-yearold Frederick Fritschenburg, a second generation Australian of German descent who recalls the tales of his war-torn life and the bond he shared with his grandmother.

In her new book, Money Rules (Kanyin Publications, 2008), Carol Yip (BEc(Hons) 1988) discusses the psychological elements of human behaviour in personal financial management.
