New heart for Monash South Africa

Issue 19 | Autumn/Winter 2007

Monash South Africa has a new heart, a new Campus Centre and Learning Commons building, and staff and students are loving it.

The new three-storey building was opened on 23 February by Deputy Minister of Education ME Surty and Australian High Commissioner Mr Philip Green.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Tyrone Pretorius said the facility combines traditional library services and IT services and resources, with a user-friendly learning and teaching environment.

"The opening of this impressive new Campus Centre and Learning Commons building is a milestone in the development of the campus. It has been designed and positioned to be the focal point of the campus in the future," Professor Pretorius said.

The building contains more than 100 new computer workstations with internet access, a discussion area for students and study area with 89 study carrels, bistro, offices, two discussion rooms, three meeting rooms and a seminar room.

A campus bookshop has also been included and the Monash South Africa Student Association has its own office and a student lounge facility.

Student support services located in this building include Student Development, the Centre for Language and Learning and the Monash South Africa Foundation Programme.
