MONASH UNIVERSITY

From its beginnings in Melbourne 37 years ago, Monash University has grown into a dynamic and distinguished university with a worldwide reputation for excellence in teaching, research and scholarship.

The university offers high-quality education and an energetic, innovative learning environment to more than 42,000 students across seven campuses in Melbourne, regional Victoria and Malaysia.

Monash's strengths include cooperative research projects with the private sector, links with professional bodies in presenting practical study components, rich and diverse performing arts programs, and distance learning courses which afford education opportunities to a wide range of people.

Clayton

Monash's original campus at Clayton lies to the south-east of Melbourne and remains home to the university's central administration. It offers a unique environment for research, teaching, learning and cultural enrichment, where its 20,000 students can study in the eight faculties represented on campus -- Arts, Business & Economics, Education, Engineering, Information Techno-logy, Law, Medicine and Science.

Caulfield

The multifaceted nature of the Caulfield campus is reflected in the range of programs it offers through the faculties of Art & Design, Arts, Business & Economics, Engineering, and Information Technology. Home to 9000 students, Caulfield has an enviable reputation for being a key centre of training and development for senior business people.

Peninsula

The Peninsula campus is located on the Mornington Peninsula and provides a personal and friendly study environment for its 3000 students. The campus offers courses in Art and Design, Arts, Business, Education, Information Technology and Nursing. The George Jenkins Theatre is an established performing arts centre servicing the region, which enriches the cultural life of both the university and the local community.

Berwick

The Berwick campus, located about 40 km south-east of Melbourne, has been developed to serve the city's fastest-growing urban corridor. The campus has more than 700 students and serves as the university's hub for information technology and multimedia applications. It offers a range of double degree and double award university and TAFE courses in communication, business, science, and tourism.

Parkville

Established in 1881 as the school of the Pharmaceutical Society of Victoria, the Victorian College of Pharmacy became a faculty of Monash University in 1992. It offers degrees in Pharmacy and plays a leading role in the teaching and research of pharmacy within Australia. The college, which has almost 500 students, comprises the departments of Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy Practice, and Pharmaceutical Biology and Pharmacology.

Gippsland

Gippsland is Monash's rural campus located in the Latrobe Valley, 168 km south-east of Melbourne. The schools of Applied Sciences, Business and Electronic Commerce, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences and Nursing, as well as the faculties of Education and Art & Design, all offer courses at Gippsland. The campus, which is home to 8000 students, is also the headquarters for the university's Distance Education Centre, which offers greater access and more flexible learning options to students around Australia and overseas.

Malaysia

Monash's newest campus was established this year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in partnership with Sunway College. The Monash University Sunway Campus Malaysia, will welcome its first students in July 1998. It will offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, science, information technology, business and the arts, and expects to build a strong research base. The establishment of a campus in Malaysia offers Malaysian students the opportunity to gain a Monash qualification in their own country and represents the first stage in Monash's plans to establish a range of campuses and extension centres throughout the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
