SunwayMonash University Student AssociationThe Monash University Student Association (MUSA) represents the student body at Monash University Sunway campus. MUSA serves as an effective channel for students to communicate with the academic and administrative authorities of the University. Through the Monash Student Council (MSC), which is the governing body of MUSA, best endeavours are made to look after the welfare and benefits of the students and to provide a platform for various student activities such as social gatherings, outings and educational talks etc. Among the major events organised by MUSA in 2007 were the Sunway Lagoon Orientation Bash, Sports Carnival, Cultural Night, Pizza Day, Street Party, Wom*n's Week, HIV/AIDS Week, Couple's Dialogue and Dinner, International Wom*n's Day Celebrations, Clubs and Societies Week, and the annual Monash Ball. The MSC is also responsible for the management of several student spaces. Currently, these spaces include the offices of MSC members, the Student Lounge, Multi-Purpose Room, and a Gym (all located on the first floor building 6 A), together with a dance studio and Wom*n's Room (an amenity introduced only last year) on the second floor of building 6A. The MSC is responsible for the management of the MUSA funds, which come from the Student Council subscription fee collected from each student. The official motto of MUSA is `Stand up and stand out', which serves to remind students to try to make positive changes wherever possible. There are 21 office bearers, all of whom are elected directly by the students, namely: the president; vice-president; general secretary; treasurer; publicity officer; welfare officer; activities chairperson; wom*n's officer; editor; representative from the three divisions; and two representatives from each school (ie Business and Economics, Arts and Sciences, Information Technology and Engineering). Annual elections for these posts are held every October. Students are encouraged to get involved by standing for the various positions available through MUSA sub-committees such as the education affairs committee and the activities committee, through clubs and societies and through other committees such as the general library committee, the staff-student liaison committee, and other committees that serve as channels for student feedback. Students are also encouraged to voice their suggestions and grievances through the MSC and the channels mentioned above. Further information
