ClaytonMonash Student Association (Clayton) Inc.The Monash Student Association (MSA) is the recognised means of communication between Clayton students and the academic and administrative authorities of the University. MSA provides many opportunities for students to become active in professional, cultural, social and political groups, and to develop a wide range of personal interests. All students have access to services, programs and activities provided by MSA, along with representation. MSA works actively towards improving your lot as a student, not just in your lectures, pracs and exams, but also on issues at state and federal levels that affect Monash students. The Monash Student Council is the governing body of MSA and consists of elected student office bearers and general representatives. Council directs student office bearers and staff in how the MSA is run. The student body elects all student representatives. If you want to identify your student representative on any committee, contact the MSA - first floor in the Campus Centre. If you are interested in standing for any position, inquire at MSA about nominating for elections. Most elections are held in September each year. MSA provides many services for students, including car pooling, representation and advice in academic appeals, and advocacy. Further information

Clubs and SocietiesClubs and Societies at Clayton, a division of the Monash Student Association caters for a vast array of interests with over 100 international, cultural, academic, performance, religious, political and general interest clubs. These clubs are a vital part of university life and give students (and others) an opportunity to meet people with similar interests, make friends and develop skills. Studies have shown that students involved in extracurricular activities do better in academic work, despite spending time on these activities. Students run the clubs and constitute the clubs and societies council and executive committee. Becoming involved in a club offers you fun, friends and, if you wish, responsibilities in a wide range of areas. Further information

Monash University International Students ServiceThe Monash University International Students Service (MUISS), a division of the Monash Student Association (Clayton) Inc, represents international students enrolled on the Clayton campus. MUISS also serves the interests and welfare of international students by representing them on student association, faculty and University committees, and in so doing, aims to raise the profile of international students in these important decision-making bodies. MUISS provides services and activities directed towards the specific needs of international students. MUISS aims to encourage and assist interaction between local and international students through various activities such as Multicultural Week, which helps to heighten awareness of the multicultural nature of the University environment and create an atmosphere of tolerance towards the diversity of cultures on campus. The MUISS lounge provides international students with a variety of services. One of the most popular of these is the provision of international newspapers and magazines such as The Star (Malaysia), South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), Kompas (Indonesia), and USA Today, which can be read in comfortable surroundings. The lounge also has free tea and coffee-making facilities, a refrigerator and a microwave. The lounge contains a reference library providing information on matters such as obtaining tax file numbers, health insurance, claim forms, language and learning facilities, freight services, airport transport, ambulance subscriptions, housing, student financial aid, and so on. The lounge is located on the first floor of the Clayton Campus Centre, next to Radio Monash, and is open Monday to Thursdays from 9 am to 10 pm and on Friday during semester from 9 am to 8 pm. The MUISS committee and staff assist in resolving education and welfare problems by providing advocacy on behalf of students either individually or as a group, and by providing a point of referral to other services within the University. MUISS keeps students informed of matters of importance arising out of the international education policies and decisions of the University, and carries out occasional research projects. MUISS works with the national liaison committee for International students in Australia (NLC), which is the national representative body for the 70,000 international students in Australia. International students are assured that through the NLC they will be heard by universities and government. The president and other executive members of MUISS are elected annually in September; other general committee positions may be filled at a duly constituted general meeting or by co-option. International students are strongly encouraged to take an active part in MUISS, as responsible representation of students on campus is possible only where students support their representative body.
