Study and general spaces for postgraduates

Australian campuses

It is important to access any postgraduate-specific study and general spaces available at your campus in order to meet other postgraduates and share common experiences. Outlined below is a range of spaces available for postgraduate students on each campus - check with your faculty's postgraduate coordinator to see what other facilities there are in your department, school or faculty.

Clayton

Matheson Library postgraduate room

The postgraduate room is accessible to postgraduate students who register at the loans desk. Computer workstations, lockers and a kitchenette are provided.

Monash Postgraduate Association seminar room

The MPA has a room available to postgraduates for quiet study, meetings and seminars. The room can be used free of charge and is located on the first floor, campus centre, room 1-51. To book call +61 3 9905 3197.

Monash Research Graduate Centre

The Monash Research Graduate Centre (MRGC) is located in building 3E. The centre provides registered users with access to a range of facilities and services including a computer lab, printing, scanning and, photocopying facilities, limited office space, lounge and kitchen. Caulfield

Postgraduate lounges

  • Building A - the postgraduate lounge located at Room A1.38, has four computers, comfortable chairs and couches, round meeting tables, an internal phone, noticeboard and a sink. A great place to meet socially or for small group work.
  • Building H - the postgraduate lounge is located at the back of the building H, ground floor, closest to Princes Highway entrance. The lounge has tables and chairs for quiet study, wireless access, a kitchen sink with hot and cold drinking water taps and a drinks vending machine.

Postgraduate study space

The postgraduate study space located at Room A1.39, Building A. The study space has 20 computers, a printer, a scanner and wireless access. To arrange 24 hour swipe card access please go to http://www.its.monash.edu.au/students/labs/swipe

Postgraduate computer labs

  • Building H - three postgraduate computer labs are located in building H: rooms H2.23, H2.26, H2.27. They all have 25 computers, printers and wireless access.
  • Building T - the postgraduate computer lab located in building T, room T2.04, has 18 computers, 1 scanner and 1 printer.

Postgraduate carrels

Twelve postgraduate study rooms equipped with computer work stations are located on level four of the Caulfield library in building A. Rooms can be booked by individual postgraduates by contacting the loans and inquiries desk in person or by phone on +61 3 9903 2281.

Syndicate rooms

There are 11 syndicate rooms in building H, located in the basement and on level 2. They can be booked for small group work sessions. For bookings contact Monash University Venues at +61 3 9905 3101 or email venues@adm.monash.edu.au.

Gippsland

A postgraduate lounge is located in Building 7N.

Peninsula

The postgraduate room is located in the Peninsula library, and is accessible to postgraduate students who register at the information desk. Computer workstations, lockers and a kitchenette are provided.

A postgraduate centre is planned to open in Struan House, Building S, in 2007.

Parkville

A postgraduate common room is located in room G24, ground floor, Scott Building. The postgraduate room contains lounge and kitchen facilities including a TV and DVD player, a fridge, coffee and tea amenities, couches, chairs, table and one computer. It is used as a meeting space and relaxation place. `Time', `Bulletin' and `New Scientist' magazine are available.

Berwick

Postgraduates of all faculties are welcome to use the Faculty of Arts postgraduate computer lab, G05 and the reading room, G04 (however Arts students have first preference). There are four computers and one printer in G05. Hours of operation are 8am-5pm, but 24 hours access may be available for regular users.

There is a kitchen next to this room that is available for student and staff use. Coffee and tea is provided. At present there is an oven and hot plates, and a microwave will follow shortly.

Alfred Hospital

There is a microwave, table tennis table, TV, vending machines, couches and a phone in the student common room on the lower ground floor of the Monash School building.

Monash Medical Centre

A common room is available for student use in the basement of D Block. It contains a small kitchen with microwave and fridge. The common room also has a table tennis table, billiard table, couches, TV and stereo.

Law Chambers

The majority of coursework postgraduate degrees in the Faculty of Law are taught at The Monash University Law Chambers, at 472 Bourke Street, Melbourne. The following facilities are available at the Melbourne facility:

  • lounge area with seating for 30 people
  • quiet areas for reading and one-on-one discussions
  • state-of-the-art computer labs seating up to 18 students.
