On-campus accommodation

Monash Residential Services manages the University's on-campus accommodation in Australia (except for Mannix College) and South Africa. Students at the Victorian College of Pharmacy can apply for accommodation at several University of Melbourne-affiliated residences. Students of Sunway campus, Malaysia have access to on-campus hostel accommodation.

Berwick

Monash students studying at Berwick campus can choose from three different accommodation styles, all located on-site, literally minutes from the front entry doors of the campus main entrance, and housing up to 144 students. There are six self-contained residential units each accommodating up to five residents who share the kitchen, dining, lounge area, bathroom and toilet facilities.

The Halls of Residence complex has:

  • single bedrooms with private ensuite bathrooms and access to shared kitchen and dining facilities
  • apartments, each accommodating up to four students, who share the use of a kitchen, dining, lounge area, bathroom and toilet facilities.

There is also a communal building on-site that contains the shared laundry, social and recreation space, and small study/group/meeting room.

Caulfield

'International Mews' is a group of 18 five-bedroom apartments leased by Monash University. These apartments are located in a private residential complex located within 10 minutes walk of the Caulfield campus, and accommodates up to 90 students. The apartments are modern and fully furnished with a full laundry in each apartment (washing machine and clothes dryer). Students share the common areas of the kitchen, laundry, bathroom facilities (two showers and one toilet) plus the living/dining area. Each bedroom has its own private telephone line, which is capable of being activated to use ADSL Broadband internet access. The apartments offer full self-catering facilities, and as such meals are not provided as part of the accommodation fees.

Clayton

Halls of Residence and Normanby House

The five Halls of Residence and Normanby House at Clayton campus offer a `collegiate' style of accommodation. Together they provide single room accommodation, meals, facilities and services to about 1,000 students, resident advisers and staff. The Halls offer residents a blend of intellectual stimulation, academic assistance, cultural diversity, recreational facilities, residential support and enrichment programs, and social opportunities.

South East Flats

The South East Flats consist of 30 furnished flats accommodating 114 students. The flats vary in size from two up to five bedrooms, and are located in the south-east corner of the campus - just minutes from the main campus buildings and lecture theatres. One of the benefits associated with living at the South East Flats is that the structure and governance of the complex enables residents to become independent and self-reliant. Residents are actively encouraged to take part in the range of support services offered by Clayton Residential. The flats are ideally suited to higher year students who are seeking something a little more private.

Mannix College*

    * NOTE: Mannix College is not managed by Monash Residential Services but is a private accommodation affiliated with the University.

Located directly opposite the University's Clayton campus, the College is fully catered and provides residence for around 250 undergraduate and postgraduate students of Monash University, Clayton and Caulfield campuses, as well as the Burwood campus of Deakin University. The College also provides accommodation for academic visitors throughout the year and conference groups during University vacations. Established in 1969, Mannix College seeks to enrich the University lifestyle through the provision of a dynamic and supportive College community, extensive academic support, a strong pastoral care network and a range of cultural, social, sporting and spiritual activities. Short-term accommodation

Short-term accommodation is available for use by new or current University staff and employees in transit. Currently, nine properties are available exclusively for short-term staff accommodation. Owing to the high demand for these properties, the maximum length of stay in short-term accommodation is four months.

Gippsland

Gippsland Residential offers on-campus accommodation for 390 students in 58 fully furnished units of six, seven or nine-bedrooms. Each unit has its own complete bathroom, laundry and kitchen facilities. There are also two larger units of 10 and 12 bedrooms, plus two casual/overnight accommodation flats available for visitors. All units are within a short walking distance of both the campus buildings and town shopping facilities.

Parkville

Monash University does not run residences at Parkville, however, students wanting accommodation in a residential college should contact the following University of Melbourne-affiliated residential colleges:

Peninsula

Students at the Peninsula campus have the opportunity to live on-campus in secure, furnished, self-contained residences located within walking distance of all campus facilities. Residences are at Bloom Street, Samada Street, Lardner Road and Student Village and comprise one, two, three, four and six-bedroom designs. The residences have private lockable bedrooms with one student to a bedroom, and common facilities such as lounge room, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and laundry to share with other residents. Students experience residential support through pastoral, social, sporting and academic assistance programs.

South Africa

Two on-campus accommodation options are available to enrolled students at Monash South Africa:

  • Self-catering accommodation in apartment-style format. Each apartment comprises four private bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen/living area.
  • Self-catering accommodation in private bedrooms in a three-storey building. Each cluster of six bedrooms shares a communal bathroom, kitchen and living area. A central entertainment area is located on the ground floor of the residence.

All bedrooms are provided with an internet connection.

All students who receive a place in residence at Monash South Africa will be provided with information about the `Conditions of residency for student residence' and `Regulations for the student residences'.

Sunway

Students of Sunway campus, Malaysia have access to on-campus hostel accommodation provided by Sunway University College, however priority is given to full-time outstation and international students, and places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Residents of the hostels have access to facilities such as convenience stores, internet-equipped common study rooms, coin-operated washing machines, public telephone and badminton courts. There are Suraus for Muslim students in both hostels, and each room in the hostels is equipped with the basic necessary furniture (beds, tables and chairs, sofas, study table and wardrobe). Each unit has a kitchen and is equipped with a refrigerator, however only light cooking is allowed. Meals can be taken either at the cafeteria, in nearby caf_s or at stalls in the food court.

The Sunway Hostel Management Office oversees the smooth running of these hostels, and has established specific rules and regulations to ensure the convenience of the majority. Students who fail to comply with these rules can be evicted from the hostel. It is the responsibility of students to clear any deposits or outstanding bills associated with their accommodation before they leave.

The Sunway Hostel Management Office will also be able to assist you in finding alternative accommodation if on-campus accommodation is not available.

Sun-U Residence

The Sunway Monash Condominium Hostel consists of two blocks of condominiums and provides facilities additional to those outlined above, such as internet ports in every room and an Olympic-size swimming pool. The monthly rental per student, inclusive of utilities (conditions apply), ranges from RM440 to RM730.

Sun-U Apartment

The Sunway Apartment Hostel includes 150 furnished apartments. The monthly rental, inclusive of utilities, per student ranges from RM200 to RM350 (approx.).
